Gabions
Gabions are modular building blocks formed of wire mesh and filled on site with rock, stone or crushed concrete.
Units are available in standard sizes but can also be manufactured from non standard wire diameters to suit particular needs.
Gabion walls can either be designed with a stepped or flush face to suit requirements.
Normally a thin vertical face of gabions is secured to the main body of the building with clamp bars. It is also possible to design an effectively free-standing wall using trapezoidal gabions.

Gabion advantages:
- They are cost effective compared to traditional concrete or reinforced concrete walls
- Gabion construction process does not require specialist plant or expertise for installation
- Gabions utilise local rock fill
- They enhance aesthetic appearance giving natural stone finish
- Gabion walls are free draining, no hydrostatic forces are considered in design
- No special foundations are normally required
