Introduction
DO YOU... NEED ECOMESH ?
 The
Brownfield Problem:
Ecomesh has recognised the problems that face the construction and
waste disposal industries in the currently changing business environment.
Increasing legislation aimed at the reduction of waste going to
landfill, increasing eco-taxation and rising costs of transport
and disposal make traditional methods unsustainable.
Ecomesh
offers a cost effective and lower risk solution for remediating
contaminated soil and waste, allowing the opportunity to redevelop
contaminated 'brownfield' sites for residential and commercial purposes.

 The
Landfill Problem:
Traditional landfill lining methods are problematic and need a bowl
shape to concentrate the leachate. The main aim of the EU Landfill
Directive is to reduce the volume of biodegradable municipal waste
going to landfill. Also, Government taxation of waste disposal at
landfill and other constraints related to planning and environmental
issues is making the traditional landfill option less acceptable.
Ecomesh
offers a new technological solution to these problems: at least
33% greater capacity for new landfill sites and vertical extension
of old landfill sites requiring minimal increase in the original
site area. The Ecomesh solution offers a 33% volume advantage over
traditional extension methods, using multiple self healing lining
elements for complete containment, providing optimised treatment
conditions to reduce waste processing times.

 The
Dig and Dump Problem:
Before brownfield sites can be redeveloped the existing contamination
problem must be addressed. Traditionally this was done by dig and
dump - exporting the pollution to another site.
The
Ecomesh solution encapsulates and remediates the contaminated soil
on site, avoiding the significant costs of transport and increasingly
punitive landfill taxation, as well as preventing further pollution.

 The
Risk Problem:
The problem with waste is not just having somewhere to put it, nor
is it just working out how to treat it and turn it back into usable
material. It is also a matter of how to stop the pollution from
spreading in the form of leached out chemical pollutants that permeate
further into the surrounding soil and the prevention of ground water
contamination.
This
applies not only to new landfill sites dealing with imported waste
or older sites where treatment is ongoing, but also to brownfield
sites where the ground is already contaminated.
The
pollution has to be quarantined and treated. Ecomesh offers inexpensive
pathway interception and treatment and reduced environmental risk
by compressing the liability period.

 The
Remediation Problem:
The contamination found on brownfield or landfill sites may contain
a complex cocktail of pollutants, such as Arsenic, Cyanides, Halides,
Hydrocarbons, Mercury, PCB’s, Sulphates, Xylenes, and Zinc
for example, some of which are highly toxic. Every site is unique,
so there are no off-the-shelf solutions, rather tailor made Ecomesh
solutions.

Pollutants
Analysing
and treating such waste is beyond the capability of most construction
and development firms.

 Ecomesh
offers a solution:
We carry out the initial contamination survey and design, implement
and manage ongoing treatment. We tailor each treatment cell to meet
the specific needs of the contamination present. We have developed
active waste neutralisation methods which exploit and enhance naturally
occurring biological processes to remediate the soil in situ. These
natural bioremediation processes are accelerated by providing optimal
conditions for the breakdown of contaminants, using air sparging,
oxygen releasing compounds and other treatment techniques.

 The
Legislation Problem:
The assessment of risks to human health from land contamination
sets the standard for the Ecomesh state-of-the-art remediation technology.
(for more information see environment-agency)
Ecomesh is leading the field in developing treatment and containment
methods that comply with and keep abreast of all current and envisioned
legislative requirements, like for example the Contaminated Land
Exposure Assessment (CLEA) model. We are working with government
agencies to help develop future legislation that will benefit the
environment and not hinder the use of innovative technological solutions.

 The
Tax Break:
If you are the owner of a Brownfield Contaminated Site and choose
to remediate your land by contracting the complete remediation project
to Ecomesh, the value of your contract is eligible for a tax credit
of up to 150%.
