 High
Impermeability Membranes.
Ecomesh treatment cells are lined with high impermeability membranes
and natural clays to prevent contamination of groundwater resources
and waste residues migrating into neighbouring sites. The barrier
membranes are either ‘expanding’ sodium bentonite or
recycled naturally occuring clay materials. The expanding and volume
table properties of the clays maintains the integrity of the barrier
at all times. These properties contribute to the self-healing property
of our treatment cells to safeguard against puncturing. In addition,
the clay barrier which forms the base and walls of the treatment
cell are constructed in such a way that the integrity of the containment
system is not compromised. This is an important advantage over traditional
methods and materials. Some traditional liners are prone to shearing
and leakage, and need to be installed on a one in three gradient
on the sides of the landfill cell. The Ecomesh system allows us
to construct truly vertical cell walls.

 Ecomesh
Modular Structure
The treatment cell is supported by the unique Ecomesh modular structure.
The modular mesh systems allow the treatment cell walls to be truly
vertical, thus maximising the volume of the cell.

 Bentonite
Slurry Walls
A range of active fillers or reactive media can be used in the Ecomesh
modular structure, allowing construction of permeable, semi permeable
and impermeable cell walls, to aid the treatment of leachates and
contaminated groundwater. This patented (pending) structure provides
our system with unique flexibility. The treatment cell is merely
one application because the Ecomesh structure can be modified and
used to provide a pre-fabricated cap on the top section of existing
bentonite slurry walls.

One
of the main problems with bentonite slurry walls is that while they
are very effective, this success is only short-lived as the leachate
quickly builds up and overflows the wall. Ecomesh have developed
a capping detail for slurry walls that resolves the issue of surface
cracking on the wall and allows a unit to be added that can collect
and treat the leachate.

 New
Age Landfill
The flexibility and potential of the Ecomesh system is inherent
in it's ability to solve the problems associated with the landfill
industry and the disposal of Domestic Waste.
Traditional
landfill sites are usually bowl shaped, to retain and concentrate
leachate and are limited by the existing ground level resulting
in low volume void space in comparison to their large surface area.
The
Ecomesh system addresses these problems. New landfill sites can
be constructed with a greater volume of saleable void space for
a given footprint than that which is possible using traditional
lining and construction methods.

 The
Vertical Advantage
We can also extend the capacity of existing landfill sites, and
collect and treat leachate within treatment cells. Ecomesh have
developed methods of using non hazardous waste and recycled construction
and demolition waste to form part of the cell structure. This avoids
the use of quarried materials and maximises waste storage capacity.
